Prediabetes

What is Prediabetes

Prediabetes is a health condition where your blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.
It acts as a warning stage before Type 2 Diabetes.

  • Many people with prediabetes may not have symptoms, but they are at high risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, and stroke in the future if no action is taken.

Causes of Prediabetes

  1. Insulin resistance – The body’s cells do not respond properly to insulin, so sugar stays in the blood.

2. Obesity (especially belly fat).

3. Unhealthy lifestyle – Lack of exercise, junk food, irregular eating habits.

4. Family history – If parents or siblings have diabetes.

5. Age – Risk increases after 40 years.

6. Other conditions – High blood pressure, high cholesterol, or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Symptoms of Prediabetes

Most people do not notice any symptoms. That’s why it is often called a “silent condition”.

  • But some signs may include:
  • Feeling more tired than usual.
  • Increased thirst or frequent urination.
  • Slow wound healing.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Dark patches on skin (especially neck, armpits, elbows) – called Acanthosis Nigricans.

Risk of Progression

  • Every year, 5–10% of people with prediabetes progress to Type 2 diabetes.
  • If no lifestyle changes are made, within 5–10 years, most prediabetic people may become diabetic.

Prevention and Management

  • Weight management – Even a 5–7% weight loss reduces risk.
  • Regular exercise – At least 30 minutes/day of brisk walking.
  • Balanced diet – More vegetables, whole grains, less sugar and fried food.
  • Stress management & proper sleep.
  • Regular screening (blood sugar checks).

Homeopathic Approach in Prediabetes

Homeopathy focuses on:

  1. Early intervention – Preventing progression from prediabetes to diabetes.

2. Correcting metabolism – Remedies improve sugar utilization and reduce insulin resistance.

3. Individualized treatment – Prescription based on patient’s full history (physical + mental + family background).

Commonly used remedies (depending on constitution):

  • Syzygium jambolanum – Helps lower raised sugar tendency.
  • Phosphoric acid – For tiredness, weakness, family history of diabetes.
  • Lycopodium – For sugar imbalance with digestive issues, bloating, and cravings.
  • Sulphur – For sedentary lifestyle, heat sensation, skin problems with sugar disturbance.

Note:

Medicines should always be taken under a qualified homeopath’s guidance.)
