Internal Piles

What is Internal Piles

Internal piles are swollen and dilated veins inside the rectum, which may not be visible from outside. In homeopathy, this condition is considered as a manifestation of venous congestion and constitutional weakness. It reflects a deeper imbalance in the circulatory and digestive systems that needs to be corrected, not just the local swelling.

Causes

  • Chronic constipation or straining while passing stool
  • Sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercise
  • Low-fiber diet leading to hard stools
  • Long sitting hours (desk jobs, drivers, etc.)
  • Pregnancy (increased abdominal pressure)
  • Hereditary weakness of veins
  • Liver congestion or portal hypertension

Symptoms

  • Bleeding during stool – usually painless, bright red blood drops after defecation
  • Mucus discharge after passing stool
  • Sensation of incomplete evacuation
  • Itching or mild discomfort in anal region
  • Piles may prolapse (come out) temporarily during stool but go back inside on their own (in advanced stages)

Homeopathic Perspective & Remedies

  • constipation, venous weakness, liver issues, or constitutional tendencies. Remedies not only relieve bleeding and swelling but also prevent recurrence.
  • Commonly used remedies (selection depends on patient’s constitution & symptoms):
  • Nux Vomica – for piles with constipation, sedentary lifestyle, excessive use of stimulants
  • Aesculus Hippocastanum – for piles with backache, fullness, and dryness in rectum
  • Hamamelis – for bleeding piles with soreness and weakness
  • Sulphur – for recurrent piles with itching and burning
