Ovarian Cancer

What is Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer starts in the ovaries – the two small organs on each side of the uterus that produce eggs and female hormones (estrogen & progesterone).
It is sometimes called a “silent killer”, because symptoms often appear late or are confused with common stomach/urinary problems.
It usually affects women above 40–50 years, but can also occur in younger women.

Causes / Risk Factors

  • Family history – ovarian, breast, or colorectal cancer in close relatives.
  • Genetic mutations – BRCA1 & BRCA2 gene mutations.
  • Age – more common after menopause.
  • Hormonal factors – early menstruation, late menopause, or no pregnancies.
  • Infertility treatments / hormone therapy.
  • Obesity.
  • History of endometriosis (uterine lining growth outside the uterus).

Symptoms

Early ovarian cancer is often silent. But look out for these warning signs if they occur frequently:

  • Abdominal bloating or swelling (tummy feels enlarged).
  • Pelvic or abdominal pain.
  • Feeling full quickly while eating (loss of appetite).
  • Frequent urination or urgency.
  • Changes in bowel habits (constipation, diarrhea).
  • Unexplained weight loss or gain.
  • Menstrual changes (irregular bleeding, heavy periods).
  • Fatigue and back pain.

If these symptoms persist for more than 2–3 weeks, consult a doctor/homeopath.

Complications

  • Can spread to uterus, fallopian tubes, bladder, intestines, liver, and lungs.
  • Causes fluid build-up in the abdomen (ascites).
  • May lead to fertility issues.
  • Emotional stress and anxiety due to delayed diagnosis.

Homeopathic Perspective

Homeopathy focuses on the whole woman, not just the tumor. It aims to:

  • Control abnormal growth tendencies.
  • Relieve symptoms like pelvic pain, bloating, irregular bleeding, and weakness.
  • Boost natural immunity to fight against abnormal cells.
  • Support mental health – dealing with fear, anxiety, depression.
  • Improve quality of life during or after conventional treatments.

Commonly considered remedies (individualized after case study):

  • Lachesis – left-sided ovarian problems, intense pain, worse before menses, cannot tolerate tight clothing.
  • Apis mellifica – ovarian swelling with stinging, burning pain, relieved by cold applications.
  • Sepia – pelvic heaviness, irregular cycles, uterine/ovarian weakness, emotional indifference.
  • Conium maculatum – hard tumors with pressure and pain.
  • Thuja occidentalis – tendency to abnormal growths, cysts, tumors.
  • Carcinosin – family history of cancer, very sensitive, anxious patients.

(Prescription depends on the totality of symptoms, not just the diagnosis.)

Precautions & Lifestyle

  • Regular gynecological check-ups, especially after age 40.
  • If you have family history of breast/ovarian cancer, consider genetic counseling.
  • Maintain healthy weight and exercise regularly.
  • Eat a nutritious diet – green vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and omega-3 rich foods.
  • Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol.
  • Pay attention to persistent bloating, pelvic pain, or urinary problems – don’t ignore them.
  • Manage stress with yoga, meditation, or prayer.

Good News: With early detection and proper treatment, including a supportive homeopathic approach, many women with ovarian cancer can live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives.
