Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH)

What is Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a serious form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) characterized by a buildup of fat in the liver, liver inflammation, and liver cell damage.NASH is a severe form of fatty liver disease.

  • In simple fatty liver, fat is deposited in the liver.
  • In NASH, along with fat, there is inflammation (sujan) and damage (chot) of liver cells.

If ignored, it can slowly lead to liver scarring (fibrosis) and even cirrhosis.
But the good news – if caught early, it can be managed and reversed.

Causes

Overweight / obesity (especially belly fat)

Type 2 Diabetes

  • High cholesterol / triglycerides
  • Poor lifestyle (junk food, sedentary habits)
  • Genetic tendency (family history)
  • Some medicines (like steroids, certain antibiotics)

Symptoms

Most people feel nothing in early stages.
But with time:

  • Persistent tiredness / weakness
  • Discomfort or dull pain in right upper side of abdomen
  • Indigestion, bloating, heaviness after meals
  • Unexplained weight gain or sometimes weight loss
  • In advanced stages – yellow eyes/skin (jaundice), swelling in legs, or fluid in belly

Homeopathy & Healing

Homeopathy works gently by reducing liver inflammation, improving digestion, correcting metabolism, and preventing fibrosis (scarring).
It supports natural regeneration of the liver.

Common Homeopathic Remedies (selected on symptoms):

  • Chelidonium – liver pain, jaundice tendency, better from hot drinks
  • Lycopodium – fatty liver with gas, bloating, right-sided pain, weak digestion
  • Phosphorus – liver weakness, bleeding tendency, tiredness
  • Carduus Marianus – specific liver remedy for fatty and inflamed liver
  • Nux Vomica – for those with acidity, irregular food habits, and digestive weakness

With regular treatment, NASH can be controlled and even reversed, preventing it from progressing to cirrhosis.

Precautions & Lifestyle

  • Maintain healthy weight (gradual weight loss is best)
  • Balanced diet – more green veggies, whole grains, fruits, and less fried/junk food
  • Avoid sugary drinks, excess carbs, and processed foods
  • Walk or exercise daily (minimum 30 minutes)
  • Limit alcohol (even small amounts worsen the liver)
  • Do not self-medicate with painkillers or unnecessary drugs
  • Regular liver function test + ultrasound check-ups

In simple words:

NASH means fat + inflammation in the liver. It is a warning sign that the liver needs care. With homeopathy, healthy diet, and exercise, patients can heal the liver and stop further damage.
