Kidney Failure (Chronic Kidney Disease – CKD)

What is Kidney Failure

Kidney failure, also called Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), happens when kidneys slowly lose their ability to filter waste and extra water from the blood. Instead of cleaning, toxins start building up inside the body.

Causes

  • Long-term diabetes (very common cause).
  • High blood pressure damaging the kidney’s delicate filters.
  • Repeated kidney infections.
  • Overuse of painkillers or chemical medicines that harm kidneys.
  • Inherited kidney problems (family history).
  • Stone or obstruction leading to kidney damage.

Symptoms

  • Swelling in face, legs, and feet.
  • Constant weakness and fatigue.
  • Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting.
  • Foamy urine (due to protein leakage).
  • Very little urine output in later stages.
  • Shortness of breath, restlessness.
  • Itching, dry skin, cramps.

Homeopathic View & Approach

In Homeopathy, CKD is seen as a deep-seated constitutional disorder where the body’s natural healing power is disturbed. Homeopathy does not just treat lab reports but the whole patient – mind, body, and symptoms.

  • Remedies are selected based on complete symptom picture.
  • Commonly used medicines (according to symptoms, not fixed for all):
  • Apis Mellifica – if swelling is marked, especially puffy face.
  • Arsenicum Album – weakness, restlessness, burning pains.
  • Cantharis – burning urine, painful urination.
  • Berberis vulgaris – sharp kidney pains, radiating to thighs.
  • Digitalis – kidney + heart weakness, scanty urine.

(Homeopathic prescription should always be done by a qualified physician after case-taking.)

Precautions (Homeopathic Perspective)

  • Avoid excessive salt and protein-heavy food that burden kidneys.
  • Drink water in moderation (not too much, not too less).
  • Avoid chemical painkillers or unnecessary strong medicines.
  • Manage diabetes and blood pressure naturally with homeopathy and lifestyle.
  • Regular checkups of urine and kidney function.
  • Stay emotionally positive – stress worsens kidney weakness.
