RINGWORM (TINEA / DERMATOPHYTOSIS)
What is RINGWORM (TINEA / DERMATOPHYTOSIS)
Ringworm, also known as Tinea, is a fungal infection of the skin caused by dermatophytes.
From a homeopathic standpoint, it represents a superficial expression of an inner psoric miasm — meaning the body’s internal imbalance is being expressed externally through skin eruptions. Suppressing it with antifungal creams often drives the disease deeper, leading to chronic tendencies like eczema or allergies later in life.
Causes
Fungal infection (commonly Trichophyton, Microsporum, or Epidermophyton species)
- Warm, humid weather
- Poor hygiene or excessive sweating
- Sharing towels, clothes, or personal items
- Low immunity or long-term use of steroids
- Diabetes or hormonal imbalance increasing skin susceptibility
Symptoms
- Round, itchy, red, scaly patches with a raised border and central clearing — giving it a ring-like appearance.
- Itching worse at night or after sweating.
- May spread through scratching or contact.
- Can occur on any part of the body — scalp, groin, feet, nails, face, or trunk.
Homeopathic Approach
In homeopathy, treatment aims to:
- Eradicate the fungal tendency from the root, not just the surface rash.
- Boost the body’s natural resistance (vital force) against recurrence.
- Prevent suppression by stimulating the body to heal from inside out.
- Address the constitutional background — often linked with psoric or sycotic miasms.
Homeopathic Remedies
- Sulphur – Intense itching, burning, especially at night; unclean skin; worse from heat.
2. Graphites – Thick, sticky discharge from cracks or skin folds; dry, rough skin.
3. Tellurium – Circular, ring-like eruptions with intense itching and offensive odor.
4. Sepia – Fungal patches in groin or folds; hormonal or stress-related tendency.
5. Psorinum – Chronic, relapsing fungal infection; very sensitive skin; always cold.
6. Arsenicum Album – Burning, scaling, anxiety, and restlessness; patches spread rapidly.
Precautions & Lifestyle
- Keep skin dry and clean.
- Avoid sharing towels or clothes.
- Wear breathable cotton clothing.
- Strengthen immunity through proper nutrition.
- Avoid chemical-based antifungal creams or steroid ointments that suppress the eruption.
