Pancreatic Cancer

What is Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer develops in the pancreas, an organ behind the stomach that helps with digestion (enzymes) and blood sugar control (insulin).
It is often called a “silent cancer” because symptoms appear late.

Causes / Risk Factors

  • Family history of pancreatic or related cancers.
  • Smoking (one of the strongest risk factors).
  • Chronic pancreatitis (long-standing inflammation of pancreas).
  • Diabetes mellitus.
  • Obesity and sedentary lifestyle.
  • Alcohol abuse.
  • High-fat diet.
  • Older age (usually after 50 years).

Symptoms

In early stages, symptoms are vague and may be ignored.

  • Abdominal pain (often in the upper abdomen, radiating to back).
  • Jaundice – yellow skin and eyes, dark urine, pale stool.
  • Loss of appetite and unexplained weight loss.
  • Nausea, vomiting, indigestion.
  • New-onset diabetes in some patients.
  • Fatigue and weakness.
  • Itchy skin (from bile buildup).

Complications

  • Blockage of bile duct → jaundice.
  • Digestive problems → due to lack of pancreatic enzymes.
  • Diabetes worsening.
  • Spread (metastasis) to liver, lungs, or other organs.

Homeopathic Perspective

Homeopathy aims to:

  • Relieve symptoms (pain, jaundice, digestive issues).
  • Slow down disease progression.
  • Improve quality of life and strengthen immunity.
  • Support patients undergoing conventional treatment (integrative care).

Common remedies (depending on constitution & totality):

  • Ceanothus – useful in pancreatic region pain, spleen/liver involvement.
  • Iris versicolor – for burning gastric pain, nausea, vomiting.
  • Hydrastis canadensis – weakness, weight loss, indigestion, jaundice.
  • Carbo vegetabilis – extreme weakness, bloating, difficulty digesting fats.
  • Lycopodium – for digestive troubles, flatulence, right-sided abdominal issues.
  • Conium – glandular growths, hard swellings, slow-developing tumors.
  • Carcinosin – when strong family history of cancer is present.

(Selection of remedy must be done after full case analysis.)

Precautions & Lifestyle

  • Eat small, frequent meals (easier to digest).
  • Prefer low-fat, light diet – fruits, vegetables, whole grains.
  • Avoid alcohol, tobacco, fried and processed food.
  • Drink enough water.
  • Gentle yoga/meditation for stress relief.
  • Regular check-ups if high risk (family history, chronic pancreatitis, long-standing diabetes).
